Nature-based Therapy

Being in nature can do wonders for one's mood. We can meet in a private, accessible outdoor setting for our counseling session or engage in "talk and walk" therapy.

Challenges We Can Address Together

Chronic or Terminal Illness, Alzheimer's/dementia, Caregiving for Adult Family/Friends

Living with a chronic or terminal illness, or caring for someone affected by one, can be challenging. Additionally, loving and/or caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias can present challenges as well. Anticipatory grief is grief felt over losses that occur while someone is still living, whether that is the loss of expectations for one's future, loss of social roles, loss of independence, loss of health, etc.

Grief and Loss

Loss is the severing of an attachment with a loved one, loved object, or aspect of oneself. Grief is the internalized reaction to that loss. Grief can include many emotions such as sadness, anger, fear and anxiety, and many others. It is natural to experience grief in response to a loss; however sometimes those in our lives don't know what to say or how to help. Other times, one feels "stuck" in their grief and wants tools to help them move forward. Prolonged grief disorder is a specific condition with an evidence based treatment if needed.

Adjustment to Aging & Identity Development

In the U.S., we tend to live in an age-averse society. Everywhere we turn, we are bombarded with images indicating aging is something that is negative, that we should avoid, or attempt to "fix". In reality, aging can be a wonderful process and older adulthood can be something we embrace. With some perspective shift and strategies such as Life Review therapy, one can learn to enjoy aspects of their aging process and to refute the negative stereotypes surrounding us.
